The total quantity of underlying assets per derivative contract is known as the lot size. The forex lot size, for example, is used to refer to the total quantity of base currency in the currency futures or options contract. The lot size for currency pairs in India is typically in 1000s (of the base currency).

The currency lot size for USD-INR options is $1000. This lot size is multiplied by the last traded price to get the options contract value of USD-INR.

The forex lot size for USD-INR futures is $1000. The futures contract value for USD-INR can be calculated by multiplying the currency pair’s lot size with the last traded price.

While other currency pairs in India have a lot size of 1000 (in the base currency), the JPY-INR pair’s forex lot size is ¥1,00,000. There’s a difference in the way the contract value for JPY-INR is calculated. The lot size is multiplied by the last traded price and then divided by 100.

Trading the USD-INR pair is possible through exchange-traded currency derivatives, that is, currency futures and options. You can find out the derivative’s contract value by multiplying the forex lot size of USD-INR by the last traded price.
